Movie Theater Price Gouging

We all know going to the movies is a lot pricier than it used to be: A 3-D IMAX ticket can be $17 and a regular ticket is around $7 THEN let’s add the price of a soda $3.50 plus some candy $4.50…(and/or popcorn for $5) and the price of a movie date can easily get up to $50 – I don’t even want to think about the cost of taking an entire family to the movies!

So we all know the movies are expensive and they weren’t always that way…why do we just roll over and take it? Well one guy in Michigan has decided to do something about it!

“Joshua Thompson has filed a class action lawsuit against the AMC movie theatre chain because of their high consession prices. On December 26th, the 20 year-old Livonia, Michigan native paid $8 for a Coke and a package of Goobers at the Livonia AMC theater. That’s nearly three times the $2.73 he paid for the same items at a nearby fast-food restaurant and drug store. His suit accuses AMC theaters of violating the Michigan Consumer Protection Act by charging grossly excessive prices for snacks. The suit seeks refunds for customers who were overcharged, a civil penalty against the theater chain and any other relief Judge Kathleen Macdonald might grant.”

Now how do we ALL get in on this!?

As a side note, I did learn a good trick to save $$ on movie tickets (not concessions): Go to the FIRST showing of the day! I went and saw The Lorax at 10:35AM and tickets cost only $5.25 each!
