Engagement Ring Trends for 2012

21 Mar

Another year, another trend! Last year it was a cluster of diamonds to give the illusion of one huge rock, and just a few years back everyone was crazy about princess cut…here are the engagement ring trends for 2012 according to fashion editors at Shine:

Black Diamond Engagement Rings: If you want something less traditional, go for the sophisticated and glamorous black diamond engagement ring. You can pick out a black diamond in a variety of styles, including vintage designs, a gemstone halo design, or a more contemporary cut that looks like a piece of modern art. Black diamonds set in a band with very intricate details and engravings can be a non-traditional alternative to gleaming white diamond rings.

Antique Engagement Rings: Vintage-style engagement rings can be much more elaborate and are often fashioned with pave-set diamonds, milgrain detailing, and engraved designs. Most of the rings in this style are only available in platinum or white gold. They’re designed to look like a family heirloom and have a more classic, traditional appearance.

Floral Bands: One of the more unique engagement rings of the year, bands carved with flower or leaf designs and embedded with diamonds or gemstones can be an eye-catching alternative to the traditional band. These intricately-detailed rings are much more ornate than a simple band with a diamond. Some are accented with pave diamonds while others feature micro diamonds and studded detailing. These can be ideal for those looking for a more feminine style and softer look.

Emerald Cut Engagement Rings: More of a classic style that continues to be a top trend year after year, emerald cut engagement rings have a very regal quality to them and the focal point falls right on the large diamond in the center of the ring. The angular style of emerald cut engagement rings are balanced with a single band studded with pave diamonds or two or three bands that support the large diamond in the center. You can stick with a gleaming white diamond for a more traditional look, or pick out sapphire engagement rings and other gemstones as the accent or focal point of this ring style.
